Why we don't use Webflow

Journal — 03 Platforms 7 min read

Webflow is a polished tool, and it made visual web design far more approachable. The problem is what happens after launch, when every decision about your site runs through one platform's rules, pricing and limits.

01

The platform trap

Webflow hosts your site, runs your CMS and stores your content. You can export the HTML and CSS, but the CMS, forms and site logic don't come with it in a usable way. Leaving usually means a rebuild, not a move.

Plans cap things like CMS items, locales and form submissions, and seats and features are priced separately. As your content and team grow, so does the bill, and moving only gets harder.

02

The design and feature ceiling

Webflow is excellent at marketing pages with animation. It's much weaker once your site needs to do things: client portals, booking flows, quote calculators, anything that talks to your other systems.

Those features end up stitched together with outside tools and embedded scripts. Webflow helps you make a great-looking website. It isn't built to become the software your business runs on.

03

What we build instead

  • No ceiling on features

A booking flow or client portal is just more code in the same project.

  • Content you can reuse

Content lives in Sanity and can power your site, an app or email.

  • Easy redesigns

Rebuild the front end and keep every piece of content in place.

  • You own the code

It lives in your repository. Any capable developer can pick it up.

04

When Webflow is the right call

To be fair, Webflow is a good fit for a simple marketing site that won't grow much, a team with an in-house designer who wants to make every change, or a short-lived campaign site.

But if your website is meant to grow with your business, adding content, features, languages or tools over the next few years, you deserve a foundation without a ceiling.

05

Moving off Webflow

We move your content from Webflow into Sanity, a headless CMS your team edits in a clean editor built around your business. The new front end is built with SvelteKit for speed.

We map every URL and set up redirects so your rankings carry over, then compare speed and traffic before and after so you can see what the move was worth.
